When Life Feels Harder Than It Should
Share
Have you ever stopped in the middle of a busy week and thought:
"Why does everything feel so hard right now?"
Not impossible.
Not catastrophic.
Just... harder than it feels like it should.
Most of us assume the answer is simple.
We need to work harder.
Get more organized.
Push a little more.
Stay up a little later.
Try a little harder.
But what if that's not the real problem?
What if the issue isn't effort at all?
What if you're carrying more than you were ever meant to carry alone?
For years, I believed the answer to almost every challenge was to figure it out myself.
If something needed to be fixed, I fixed it.
If there was a problem, I solved it.
If something needed to get done, I found a way.
Independence felt like a strength.
And in many ways, it is.
But over time, I learned something important.
Being capable and carrying everything yourself are not the same thing.
Sometimes life feels harder than it should because we're trying to solve problems alone that were never meant to be solved alone.
That lesson showed up repeatedly throughout my life.
As a single mom navigating transportation challenges for my daughter, I eventually realized there were other families facing many of the same obstacles. What began as asking for a ride became a support network.
Years earlier, I had seen the same thing happen in business. A major customer opportunity was won not because one person worked harder, but because an entire team came together to support a common goal.
In both situations, the workload didn't disappear.
The responsibility didn't disappear.
What changed was that the burden was shared.
And that's an important distinction.
Support doesn't eliminate responsibility.
It makes responsibility more manageable.
The next time life feels harder than it should, resist the urge to immediately push harder.
Instead, ask yourself:
"What am I carrying alone?"
The answer might reveal an opportunity you haven't considered.
Sometimes the next step isn't more effort.
Sometimes it's recognizing that support may already be closer than you think.
